A territory in which sea and land are founded forming a unique and evocative area. 18 kilometers of rocky coastline abounding with abundant bays, beaches and deep sea, surrounded by mountains running parrellel to the coast. Terracings cultivated with vineyards  and olives, kept under control by old dry stone walls.

A naturalistic heritage of great variety. Paths and mule tracks look onto breathtaking views. Five villages, Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, Monterosso face onto the sea. An environment in which centuries old work of generations has transformed an inaccessable territory into a landscape of extraordinary beauty. A Protected Marine Area and a National Park which protect the absolute uniqueness.

The “Cinque Terre” have been declared a World Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO since 1997.

Strade e autostrade

Autostrada A12: arrivare a Riomaggiore uscendo al casello di La Spezia-S.Stefano Magra provenendo da Genova o da Livorno. Attraversata la città, bisogna immettersi sulla S.P.370 detta Litoranea delle Cinque Terre e dopo circa un quarto d'ora si arriva in prossimità del bivio che scende a Riomaggiore. Proseguendo sulla Litoranea si incontra invece più avanti il bivio che scende a Manarola, successivamente Corniglia, Vernazza ed infine Monterosso al Mare.

Autostrada A12: uscire al casello di Levanto-Carrodano, arrivare nel paese levantino e intraprendere la salita per Passo Termine dove vi è un trivio che collega Monterosso con Levanto e Pignone. Da quel punto si può percorre la S.P.370, nel verso opposto alla precedente descrizione.

In tutte le Cinque Terre gran parte dei parcheggi sono riservati ai residenti e la disponibilità di posteggi è piuttosto limitata, proprio a causa della mancanza di spazi adeguati. In ragione di tale aspetto la discesa ai borghi può essere possibile solo a piedi.

Esiste un servizio di bus elettrici gestito dal Parco Nazionale che collega i centri abitati con la Litoranea.

Linee ferroviarie

L'accesso più agevole è di gran lunga quello tramite la ferrovia: le stazioni delle Cinque Terre sono situate sulla linea tirrenica Genova-Roma. Sia che si provenga da nord, sia che si provenga da sud conviene scendere alla stazione La Spezia Centrale, dove fermano tutti i treni a lunga percorrenza, per poi proseguire con i treni regionali.

Approdi marittimi

Nella stagione turistica un servizio di battelli di linea collega regolarmente i borghi di Monterosso, Vernazza, Manarola e Riomaggiore con Porto Venere, a sua volta collegata con la Spezia e Lerici, e con gli altri paesi della riviera di Levante.

Sentieri

Sono due i sentieri principali che raggiungono e attraversano il territorio delle Cinque Terre:

• il primo è il sentiero di crinale numero 1, conosciuto come Alta via delle Cinque Terre. Questa antica mulattiera corre lungo lo spartiacque che separa la costa delle Cinque Terre dalla Val di Vara e costituisce una diramazione secondaria dell'Alta via dei Monti Liguri, alla quale si connette presso il Monte Zatta; dal sentiero di crinale si possono poi raggiungere i borghi delle Cinque Terre attraverso uno dei sentieri trasversali che scendono verso il mare seguendo i crinali secondari o le valli da essi delimitate. I più importanti, da ovest a est, sono i sentieri numero 9, 8, 7, 6, 02, 01 e 3;
• il secondo è il sentiero costiero numero 2, conosciuto come, il quale congiunge Levanto a Porto Venere attraversando tutti i borghi delle Cinque Terre e assumendo nel tratto tra Riomaggiore e Manarola la celebre denominazione di.

Roads and highways

Motorway A12: get to Riomaggiore exit at S. Stefano Magra-La Spezia coming from Genoa or Livorno. Across the city, you have to take the SP370 known as the Litoranea delle Cinque Terre and after about a quarter of an hour you arrive at the junction that goes down to Riomaggiore. Continuing along the coast road you will come across on below the junction that goes down to Manarola, then Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso al Mare finally.

Highway A12: exit at Carrodano-Levanto, arriving in the country Levantine and take the climb to Passo Termine where there is a crossroads that connects Monterosso to Levanto and Pinion. From that point you can go along the SP370, in the direction opposite to the previous description.

In all the Cinque Terre most of the parking spaces are reserved for residents and the availability of parking spaces are quite limited, precisely because of the lack of adequate space. Because of this aspect, the descent to the villages can be possible only on foot.

A service of electric buses operated by the National Park which connects the towns with the Resort.

Railway lines

Access through rail system is by far the easiest: all Cinque Terre stations are located on the Tyrrhenian line Genoa-Rome. Whether you are coming from the north or from the south you should get off at the La Spezia Centrale station, where all long-distance trains stop, and then take the regional trains.

Maritime landing

During the tourist season a scheduled boat service runs regularly between the villages of Monterosso, Vernazza, Manarola and Riomaggiore to Porto Venere, which is connected with the Spezia and Lerici, and with the other countries of the Riviera di Levante.

Paths

There are two main paths that reach and cross the territory of the Cinque Terre:

• the first is the ridge trail number 1, known as Alta Via delle Cinque Terre. This ancient trail runs along the watershed that separates the coast of the Cinque Terre from the Val di Vara and is a sub-branch Ligurian Alta Via dei Monti, which connects at the Monte Zatta, from ridge trail can then reach the villages Cinque Terre through one of the trails that descend to cross the sea following the secondary ridges or valleys bounded by them. The most important, from west to east, are the paths number 9, 8, 7, 6, 02, 01 and 3;
• the second is the coastal path number 2, known as the Sentiero azzurro, which connects Levanto to Portovenere through all the villages of the Cinque Terre and taking in the section between Riomaggiore and Manarola the famous name of via dell'Amore.
